Research continues outside Puma Punku
Tiwanaku, Bolivia — An archaeological research team, led by Dr. Ricardo Diaz, continues its work on the mountainside of Qaluyu, located five miles from the ruins at Puma Punku.
Dr. Diaz is a professor of Pre-Incan Studies at Universidad de Buenos Aires, and his seasonal dig is being funded by the Argentina Foundation for Historical Studies.
His dig team has been deployed each spring for the past five years. “We are excited about the possibilities this season,” says Diaz. “We came so close to discovering evidence of ancient civilizations a year ago, so I am confident this year’s work will reveal something special.”
The Bolivian government granted Dr. Diaz and his team and archaeological dig site permit this past winter and the team deployed to Tiwanaku four weeks ago.
